Department of History was started in 1994.The Department aims at making it is a Centre of Excellence for study and research in the field of Humanities & Social Sciences.The major objectives of the Department are: To introduce the students with major trends of changes and developments in the life and culture of the humanity. To acquaint the students to the emerging branches of historical studies and thought, and creation of a new generation of historians. To undertake extensive research on various aspects of history of Assam and the North-East India. To research on India’s inter country socio-economic and political relationships with the neighbours.
